Dealing with problems
It doesn’t matter what industry or level you are at in the business, you will always have to deal with problems that people create.
It could be a personality clash, someone breaking a rule and creating a big problem, a staff member telling a customer to “go away”, or damaging an important piece of plant or equipment.
The way you deal with these issues has a big impact on what it’s like to work for your business, other staff see how they will be treated if something goes wrong, and they decide if you dealt with the problem in a fair way.
Our approach to dealing with people problems is starting at the lowest level possible; don’t let things get bigger than they need to be.
Sometimes the first time you know about a problem is when a personal grievance is aised by a staff member. It is a good idea to contact us to get advice before dealing with a personal grievance, often they can be worked out without the need to go to mediation or “to court”, never pay the staff member money to go away.
